Mezli VEGA OSORNO

artiste franco-mexicaine. Vit et travaille entre le Mexique et la France depuis 2001.

Mezli a obtenu son grade de Docteure, spécialité Photographie par L'Ecole Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie et L'Université Aix-Marseille en 2020. Son œuvre obtient différents prix tels que la Quinzaine Photographique Nantaise, La Maison Blanche et le Prix du public au Phot’Aix. Actuellement elle poursuit ses recherches en tant que résidente permanente au Couvent, Marseille.

Mezli a collaboré avec la presse (Télérama, Picnic Magazine, El País) et travaillé pour des festivals de renommée internationale, comme le Festival de Théâtre d’Avignon, le Festival International du Cinéma de Marseille et Actoral.

Dans son travail, elle questionne l’authenticité de l’image, ses photographies allant d’une mise en scène évidente à une approche quasi documentaire. Les images passent par une ambiguïté volontaire entre construction et simple enregistrement. Ces moments d’incertitude se confrontent au spectateur tout en créant une atmosphère chargée de sens et de poésie.

Mezli received her PhD in Photography from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie and the Université Aix-Marseille in 2020. Her work has won awards including the Quinzaine Photographique Nantaise, La Maison Blanche and the Prix du Public at Phot'Aix. She is currently pursuing her research as a permanent resident at Le Couvent, Marseille.

She obtained her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Marseille in 2007. The following year, she wins a grant, Jóvenes Creadores from the FONCA in Mexico. As a selected artist in residence at Ecole Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie d'Arles between 2009 and 2010, she continued to develop her conceptual approach. She received the award of La Maison Blanche and Phot'Aix Public Award. In 2014, she obtained the Quinzaine Photographique Nantaise Award with her serie The Valley.

Her work has been shown internationally in France, Germany, Serbia, The Netherlands and Thailand.

She also has published works in the press (Télérama, Picnic Magazine, El País) and she has collaborated with international Festivals such as Festival de Théâtre d'Avignon and the Festival International du Cinéma de Marseille.

Through her work, she questions the authenticity of images. Her photos evolve from a choreographed scene to a quasi-documentary approach. A certain ambiguity remains between straight forward documentation and fiction. The line with reality is blurred and the viewer is confronted with poetic moments.
